The Infinity Wars thread made me think about what superhero films I liked the best. I'm really not a fan of the genre, but I end up seeing everything. I must be very dumb.

(for the record, I started writing this post and then got caught in an endless pit of films - I stopped before being done, I realize I'm missing the original Superman films and probably lots of others but damn this was too long)

Here's how it goes for me (I looked at my IMDB ratings with the superhero key word for a start):

    1) Birdman
    2) The Dark Knight
    3) Black Panther
    4) The Crow
    5) Batman Begins
    6) Batman (1989)
    7) Batman Returns
    8) The Dark Knight Rises
    9) V for Vendetta
    10) Watchmen
    11) Iron Man
    12) Deadpool
    13) Logan
    14) Guardians of the Galaxy
    15) Unbreakable
    16) Spider-Man: Homecoming
    16) Captain America: Civil War
    18) Spider-Man
    19) X-Men
    20) The Avengers
    21) Spider-Man 2
    22) Iron Man 2
    23) Man of Steel
    24) Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    25) The Punisher (1989)
    26) The Wolverine
    27) X: First Class
    28) Avengers: Infinity War
    29) The Incredible Hulk
    30) Avengers: Age of Ultron
    31) X-Men: First Class
    32) X2
    33) Captain America: The First Avenger
    34) The Amazing Spider-Man
    35) X-Men: Apocalypse
    36) X-Men: Days of Future Past
    37) Doctor Strange
    38) Iron Man 3
    39) X-Men: The Last Stand
    40) The Punisher (2004)
    41) Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice
    42) Spider-Man 3
    43) Fantastic Four (2015)
    44) The Amazing Spider-Man 2
    45) Punisher: War Zone
    46) Batman Forever
    47) Batman & Robin
    48) Daredevil

For someone who is not a fan of the genre you sure posted a really long list of superhero movies. Lol. I'm actually impressed with how long your list is. I thought ranking the 20 MCU films was tough. But you invited me here so here I am. I was referring to only the 20 MCU films when I said that Black Panther is the 5th best one for me. My top 10 is as follows.

    1. Avengers: Infinity War
    2. Captain America: Civil War
    3. Avengers
    4. Captain America: Winter Soldier
    5. Black Panther
    6. Guardians of the Galaxy
    7. Thor: Ragnarok
    8. Avengers: Age of Ultron
    9. Iron Man
    10. Dr Strange

For the record, Infinity War and Civil War are my top two superhero films of all time. Followed by the Dark Knight. See how subjective movies are? Lol.

It's true of all art, but with objects of such low substance created for entertainment purpose first, it's really hard to argue an objective position. Thanks for the list.

I thought of two other superhero films that I haven't ranked in my original post: American Hero and Hancock (two films with similar premises). The Dorff one would probably rank just below Logan, the Will Smith one I don't remember too well, probably about 30th...

    @NakedCity

You've got some problems. First, the WNBA thread, now your horrible Super hero movie rankings????

I kid, I kid. Nice list. I would have put Deadpool and Logan in my top 10 though. I would have also shown the original Christopher Reeves Superman some love.

Also.... Will Smith = Hancock. That one would have also been on my list (top 20) because I liked the fact that they showed an ugly side to someone with super powers.

He took a brat kid and threw him 500 feet in the air. Kids learn from THAT shit. lol

What about "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" with Luke Wilson and Uma Thurman?

Not a great movie, but it has a unique twist and it's fun.

Try American Hero, same premise as Hancock, without the crappy humour. I think I've seen that Super Ex Girlfriend too, damn that was bad... As for the original superman movies, I know I skipped them, and I know I kind of liked them back then, but I'd have to see them again, as I remember, the series went down the craphole pretty fast, no?

Ahhh.... I guess I misunderstood you when you said you didn't remember the Will Smith one. I tbought you meant the title of the movie. My bad.

Yeah. Superman 1 and 2 were great considering the time period for a superhero movie. 3 was bad. 4 was ridiculous. Painfully so.

So does Venom make it onto your top list? Once you've seen it that is.

Saw it. Fun film, but way too much (and not that good) CGI. I guess I'd squeeze it around 12-15.

Happy to find this this thread while peeking around the site! I gotta get out more.

I love superhero movies. The Marvel catalog is my favorite.

    My top 10:

    1 Infinity War
    2 Thor Ragnarok
    3 Captain America Civil War
    4 Doctor Strange
    5 Logan
    6 Guardians Of The Galaxy
    7 Avengers
    8 Captain America First Avenger
9 X-men Days Of Future Past
    10 Deadpool

    DC gets honorable mentions for:

    Superman (1977)
    Superman II (director's cut)
    Batman (Burton)
    The Dark Knight
    Justice League
    Wonder Woman

I'm excited about Captain Marvel and Endgame, though scuttlebutt says that after that the Marvel films will move heavily to "B" characters, as (apparently) certain 'big gun" actors' contracts will be complete. But the way Marvel tends to surprise, I take everything I hear with the complete salt shaker.

    Great thread!

I've seen quite a few since the original post and should probably update my list too. :)

As for B characters, I wouldn't worry too much, Disney will get back the X-Men and the Netflix crew - with Wolverine and Daredevil around, they can launch quite a few new films. I doubt they can do anything with the Punisher after the Netflix series though, they should wait a while so that everybody forgets about Bernthal before trying anything else (the Disney channel won't allow the violence needed to portray that character, wonder what they'll do with Deadpool too).

Going to be so hard to forget Bernthal's version. He really nailed the character imo.

Since Marvel Studios got Fantastic Four, I can't wait to see what they come up with.

I was going to pick on you for your F4 post, but ok, if Lincoln is in it, I too would want to watch it... I've only seen the last attempt to adapt this lousy superhero team and that was pathetic! I haven't even seen the Silver Surfer yet! (how can you put that shit on screen?). Oh I've also watched a documentary about the making of the Roger Corman adaptation... Ahahahah,..

But well, ok, Lincoln, I'm listening...

Your 2 and 3 are my # 1 and # 2. Although I basically put the whole Dark Knight Trilogy at # 1, and personally look at those set of films as one entity.

Glad to see you included V for Vendetta here. Not many people talk about that one, but it was very well done.

Have you seen Birdman? Of course, you have to be open minded to consider it a "superhero movie", but it's very good.

And the Nolan effort is really apart from the rest here too, I agree. Black Panther is really special to me because of what it represents, but as a film, there's quite a gap after #2. And a huge one after #9.

Yeah, personally I wouldn't put Birdman into the superhero bracket. The Academy must agree too, otherwise it wouldn't have given them all of those awards. lol

Did he fly at the end of the movie or did he plummet to his death? I still don't know!
