The book that Daryl was hiding, what do you think of that?

Interesting, I looked at that scene wrong. I thought it was Carol hiding it. It was on dealing with survivors of childhood abuse.

Yeah I thought it was Carols? Either way, they have some deep issues, and it's a shame neither were able to open up much this episode and relate better.

I thought it was Daryl's (the 'children' part is what made me think it fell from his bag).

The book was on a table at the women's shelter. Later, Carol and Daryl are disagreeing about how to look for Beth without weapons. Carol says, "You're not who you were, and neither am I. I don't know if I believe in God anymore, or heaven, but if I'm going to hell, I'm making damn sure I'm holding it off as long as I can." Then she grabs Daryl's bag from the floor and the book falls out.

I took this to mean that Daryl is trying to examine and then heal from his past trauma, which is new for him because he used to keep all of that bottled up. Daryl is growing in a positive direction, while Carol is worried about who she is becoming.

I just rewatched and it falls out of the satchel Daryl was carrying.

When Carol is shown packing, at the shelter, I think it was just showing that she was still carrying around Tom Sawyer- just like she's carrying around the Lizzie/Mika mess.

I find it an interesting switch, how originally it was Carol who was concerned about Daryl, and now that it is reversed.

and I bet there are no pictures, in that book!

Seriously, it shows so much growth, from the squirrel throwing Daryl days.

Ah, I thought it was Carol getting/reading the book to help Daryl. I think it was 'Helping survivors of Childhood Trauma' and thought it was more a book for therapists/psychiatrists/volunteers rather than the victims themselves.

But I like the idea of it being Daryl's and that Carol still keeps Tom Sawyer with her.
If I remember right, she did see/find the book prior to him dropping it?

Well said. That is how I saw it too.

That's good! I'm glad I read here or I'd miss so much!

Daryl is evolving and willing to talk about, and examine, his past. While it appears Carol does not.

Maybe Daryl wanted a better understanding on how Carol is as a person and her troubled past

My first thought was "How thoughtful of Daryl to grab that book for Carl!". But then I remembered that he was also abused as a child. It's nice that he wants to deal with it though. Hopefully, he lets Carl read it after he's finished.

I thought it was Carols. When I saw it, I was like, Hey, I didn't know she was abused as a child, like Darryl? & Why would she want to read a book about children when she was abused as a grownup?

But it would be more logical if it was Darryl's. (Finally somebody uses books (and not as fuel for fire)!)

We can see how this is just one of many kinds of bonds these two have with each other. They both came from abusive backgrounds. There is an understanding between them.
