So Rosita is running, dog tired, from a herd. She's finally so tired that she sits by a tree and shoots off a flare. Hmmm, wouldn't that actually draw a herd we suspect of being the Whisperers closer?? And now she's too tired to run further. Plus since she left the injured Eugene behind, shouldn't she be able to outrun a herd of stumbling Walker wannabes and not need a flare??
    Just sayin'.

yeah it was a bit awkward, but I think the idea we were suppose to have is that she got overwhelmed by the combination of pulling Eugene along, dehydration, exhaustion, and the terror of "talking walkers" who seemed to be systematically stalking her. Its hard to say how long this had been going on? Two hours? 4? On top of that she had a bit of a head injury. She probably wasn't thinking clearly, or maybe she had given up on herself and set the flare hoping it would eventually bring someone to save Eugene...

I think the idea was that she was a bit delirious, which is why they showed us she no longer had any water. A bit eyebrow raising if the whisperers were keeping only with the speed of the herd, but maybe they were doing more systematic type stalking from more than one direction. They made a definite point to show viewers that the voices seemed to be coming from all directions, and that Rosita was far from the top of her game.

Exactly, shooting the flare might have alerted the people she's running from.

She realizes this as she stops. She is dead tired and cant' go on much longer. In an act of final desperation she fires the flare with not other choices left hopefully alerting a rescuer.

You also have to consider how freaked out she is. The zombies seem to be talking and are not acting normally. They are turning and following her actively seeking unlike anything she's encountered before. (Remember Eugene said the herd seemed to make a u-turn, that's not normal behavior)

Valid point. Last ditch desperation effort, which of course in tv land, works. And that's good, because I like Rosita; not Father Gabriel and Eugene like, but like.

As much as walkers are attracted to sound and lights, I don't think walkers could pinpoint a location based on a flare in the sky. Sure these aren't walkers, but she didn't know that. Even hearing them talk she probably believed they still couldn't track her location based on a flare. Only her people would be able to do that.

Alone, dehydrated, injured, her last resort was to signal anybody out there to come find her. I don't think she thought the walkers would be able to find her from the flare.
