As I was watching the episode last night for the 19th....I MEAN....second time.....I remembered something that I dont think has been mentioned on here....?

Am I the only one that found that owl that Daryl killed....a bit creepy looking???? What kind of owl has their wings sitting so LOW on their body? It almost looked like they were coming out of its legs. Is that a certain defensive stance, or just a weird species of owl that I have never seen?

LOL I didn't give much thought to the owl. I saw it in the background when he first started going into the room and thought "What is that thing?? Oh, it's an owl... Weird."

It almost felt like the owl was offering himself to Daryl the way he was just sitting there, also I don't think Daryl would have killed the owl for food if he had other choices or the time to be picky. There is a regal quality to owls that I think Daryl gets, being so in tune with his natural surroundings.

It looked like a Screech Owl to me, but I could be wrong. I'm not an expert on Owls.

THANK YOU! And now that I see a still picture.... closer up ....I guess it just looked like his wings were coming out of his legs because of the way he had them lowered so low. (lowered so low? huh?) anyway, I thought maybe there was a species of owl more along the lines of a sugar glider or something. WWWWWHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

The first time I saw it, I knew it was a great horned owl.

Did the owl show up just before Rick and his group did, or was it there a while? And if it was there a while, how come the walkers didn't munch on it?

You remember how they attacked that horse in S1?

    The horse was surrounded.

    The owl can fly.

Pretty sure there weren't any walkers in the house anyway. (From memory).

I thought there was. Didn't Carl shoot one in the head after the men of the group charged in the front door and started looking for walkers?

There was like 5 in the house. Rick kills 2, T-Dog kills 1, Carl kills one and Daryl kills one.

Oh oops, I have bad memory! But there weren't any in the room with the owl.

Again I'm probably wrong, bad memory xD

The owl was roosting just inside an open window. The bedroom door was closed, so neither of the walkers downstairs could have gotten in to molest it. If it had been disturbed, it could just fly out the window. It's a pretty safe roosting place, in all.

The reason Daryl was able to shoot it (and boy must the ground be desperate for chow - owls are raptors, hunters and scavengers not known for tastiness) is because owls are noctural - it was sleepy and slow. In another three seconds, it would have been out that window.

I'm trying not to be too disturbed about the killing - raptors are probably doing very well in TWD. Plenty of scavenge to go around.
