The thought just occurred to me that this "house" wasn't such a disaster on the inside from scavangers or trying to hold out against the walkers, but because that's just the way that family lived. All the junk on the floor, uncleaned ashtrays, tears/holes in the walls were probably there before the ZA started. I just didn't fully realize it till after watching the next episode and the condition of the building in that one.
And to think that Daryl was comfortable in there......just, wow. That's incredibly sad.

I still don't get why they burnt it down. It's a lot safer being in a house than sleeping in the middle of the woods, with camp fire. As Glenn demonstrated, walkers are attracted to fire. So why in the middle of a forest, when you have no visible light to see targets would you set up a camp fire that would draw walkers towards you.

The house from a survival stand point to be a much safer option. It can be barricaded, used to camouflage yourself from an oncoming herd, as well as, provide protection from walker's biting you when your sleeping.

I believe they burned it down because of what it represented to Daryl and it was a way of letting go of his past.

Emily Kinney said as much on "Talking Dead" after the episode.
