Easily my favourite book ever; I must've read it six or seven times, and innumerable times in between that, just picking up at a random point and letting it flow from there.

    I know it's not strictly-speaking 'horror', but it's certainly post-apocalyptic.

If you're not familiar, it's the story of a man and his young son trying to survive in a world devastated by an unspecified cataclysm. It's absolutely heartwrenching, and the writing style is so refined and beautiful that it's almost as mesmerising as the story in itself.

So, has anyone ever read it?

Yeah, I waited a long time for the film adaptation to come out; you know that way where the film is amazing, but the source still manages to be ten times better?

    Yeah, that.

I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Yeah I guess so! Though, I'd say The Road movie was a lot more consistent in its faithfulness.

The book just has more, y'know? The sad/****ed-up parts are amplified.

It is one of the most heartbreaking and beautiful books I have ever read. It shows how amazing I thought the film was too, that my one qualm with it was that they moved the drinking cola scene to the start, so there were 2 happy scenes and not just one, haha!

I have the ebook on my computer. I've been wanting to read it for awhile now, since it's gotten such positive reviews, but I can't get past the way it's written. There's no quotations marks for the dialogue and from the little bit I have read, the sentences seem to run together.

You get used to it. It's worth the perseverance.

Personally I think his writing style is beautiful and it's certainly become a lot more refined over the years.

I can't recall which book it is, but in one of his older ones - from the 70s/80s I suspect - I'm pretty sure he has a single, unbroken sentence that runs for a page and a half.

You can read more about his style here

    The thought of that
still gives me the willies. Gah.

Oh and the scene after they see the preggo lady too. >.>

The idea of living on a world that
is worse than an ultimately recoverable ZA, in my opinion.

    Yep, pretty much.

The Road and TWD have a lot of parallels in the sense that it's not about the world they inhabit or what caused it to turn on its head, but the people therein and how they survive.

The relationship between the man and the boy is an astonishingly beautiful love story.

I'll sure give it a go! I love reading, especially books that connect with me emotionally. The first few paragraphs I have read were amazing, but I'm just not used to the writing style. Also, books that involve children in depressing situations I find disturbing but touching. I do know there's one scene in the book where
I teared up. That's just awful!

It's only a fleeting mention, but yeah. The fact it's mentioned so matter-of-factly and never referred to again shows how shocking their world is.

I've read it a long time ago. I've also seen the movie when it came out. I liked the book more.
