Those episodes were all a very long time ago.

 

Yes, Season 4 and earlier. That’s my point. In season 4 Gimple took over as show runner. That’s when he started to hurt the show. Prior to becoming show runner, he was one of their best writers. I think he fails at making the big decisions for the overall direction of a season. That’s why I said they should demote him from show runner, back down to what he was good at, which is writing a few powerful episodes each season.

 

IMO, TWD's quality began to decline in season 5, with the Hospital Arc, and Team Family's journey up the East Coast. That's when Gimple started to test out some of his familiar formulas: the camera tricks, the art house impressionism, and of course, characters acting stupid to move the plot forward. Season 5 is watchable, but I started to feel that TWD was changing, and not for the better. And I was right.

 

Agreed. Season 4 was mostly good, although he started to show hints of some of his negative tendencies. His inability to utilize cliffhangers correctly (season finale). Not understanding how to translate comic scenes to the screen (Rick v Tyreese fight had no impact compared to the book). Ridiculous coincidences (everyone goes for Terminus). Forced character arcs to move the plot. While most of the individual episodes were well done, overall S4 felt like the end of one season in the first half and the beginning of another season in the second half. The season finale was a phenomenal episode, but ended the way a mid-season finale should.

I hate him! He ruined the best show on TV that wasn't called Game of Thrones.

He killed off 3 characters that were fan faves and also turned the ultimate fan favorite TWD character into a grunting emo mute.
