The walkers in the wall

    What's up with the walkers in the wall?

    Yesterday I went back to see how much, or how little "make-up" Nick and the girl put on (zombie blood) and got a better look at the wall.
    There is an outer wall, of plywood, perhaps sheets of metal, or whatever, that blocks the view of the walkers, from the outside, and blocks the walker's view of the outside.

    Then there is a chain link fence, like around the prison.

    The area between the inner fence, and outer wall, is filled with walkers, similar to a moat around a castle filled with water.

    Does this moat completely surround the town? I guess it should.

    How come these walkers aren't lined up at the fence, like the ones at the prison?

    It appears there are two parts of La Colonia. We have the town itself (its a neighborhood on the hilly outskirts of the city) with the marketplace, pharmacy, homes, and we see walls/a gate/guard towers. Then there's the area below the marketplace that leads to the clearing and the fence/bus. In a sneak peek for 2x12, it shows Francisco, Ana, and a girl sneak out of La Colonia by slipping through a piece of loose sheet metal that makes up the wall behind some houses, then they're running down towards the clearing.

    So I guess because the population lives in the "inner" part of La Colonia, which is walled off, the walkers aren't really aware of the survivors up there. It also sounds like the natural terrain (cliffs/hills) serve as the perimeter of La Colonia, and then the 4th side is the walker fence aka the only way in and out of La Colonia (hence why Francisco, Nick, Luciana are always bloody when leaving/exiting town).
