Richard Judd was already panting when he made the final turn on the staircase and leapt the final steps up to the second floor and ran down the hallway to the security room. He stopped at the door, shoved the SIG P226 pistol into his waist belt, and opened the door.

The young guard —whose name was Dylan —turned in his swivel chair with a look on his face like he had been caught watching pornography. "Oh, Mr. Judd! was just...I was just—"

Judd walked into the security room and glared contemptuously at Dylan. "You were just sitting on your ass while some rube cop shot up your co-workers."

Dylan blushed. "Well...yeah, but I'm supposed to stay—"

Judd slapped the guard's face and looked at the monitors. The main one had a bird's eye view of the cafeteria. Judd saw the cop Leslie was after, sitting beside an overturned table, his back against the doorway, and he had an orange back pack at his side and a pistol in his hand. Two unconscious guards were laying facedown nearby.

"Leslie, do you copy?" Judd asked into the walkie-talkie.

Static echoed over the walkie-talkie and then it stopped. "Copy, Richard," Leslie answered.

Judd leaned forward and stared at the image of Rick Grimes on the main monitor. "Leslie, I see the son of a bitch, and he's got a pistol and a table blocking the doorway."

"What about the three punks?" Leslie asked.

Judd motioned for the guard to pull back on the security camera, and the view of Rick gave way to a view of the whole cafeteria. "They're not with him," Judd answered.

"Too bad. I wanted them to watch Grimes beg for mercy as I beat him to death."

The walkie-talkie went dead, and Judd sat down in the swivel chair beside the guard and watched the security monitors intently.

Leslie and this three heavily armed and armored guards reached the end of the hallway. The wounded Nate still sat with his back against the doorway, trying to load a fresh magazine into his M16A2 rifle. Nate saw his employer and his reinforcements approaching and sighed with relief.

"Mr. Lamar," Nate gasped. "He killed John. I think he killed the other guys, too."

One of Leslie's guards knelt beside Nate and examined his gunshot wounds. "That cop shot you all to hell."

"No shit, Sherlock," Nate spat as fresh tears rolled down his face.

"I don't know if the Doc has the skill to treat these wounds," the guard said to Leslie. "How are we going to help him?"

Leslie stared down at Nate for a moment, and then aimed his Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine gun at Nate's forehead.

Nate's red eyes went wide and he opened his mouth wide and he was about to plead for mercy.

    BRAKA!

The point blank shot blew apart the back of Nate's head, and his blood and brain matter splattered the doorway.

"Jesus H. Christ!" the sympathetic guard screamed in shock as he leapt to his feet. His two colleagues looked away from Nate's bloody remains and doubled over as if they were about to vomit.

Leslie stepped to the left and hid behind the doorframe. He looked out at the lobby with the two dead guards lying on the floor and then he looked at the bullet-riddled table blocking the cafeteria's doorway.

"Rick!" Leslie shouted, with his left hand cupped around his mouth. "You've truly inconvenienced me! I'll have to restrain myself as I torture you; I want your death to be excruciating and prolonged!"

"You're going to have to catch me first, Leslie!" Rick shouted.

    "All in due time, Rick!"

Leslie aimed his MP5 at the bullet-riddled table; his three guards aimed their M16A2 rifles, too.

    BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA!

The bullets shattered the crumbling table, or chipped away at the doorway. Inside the cafeteria, Rick slipped the orange back pack containing the group's guns, knives, and flashlights over his left shoulder, and in his right hand he held Roy's Colt 1911 pistol. Rick glanced over the crumbling table at Shane's Mossberg 590 shotgun, which was now impossible to retrieve. The only thing he could do now was hold Leslie and his guards back long enough for Maggie to return with the truck.

Glenn, Zach, and their small group were walking down a hallway with wide windows along the right showing the large turbines that powered the southern region of Georgia, when the gum-chewing worker Isaac made his way through the group and whispered something to Jayla and their "crew representative" Adam Kaminski.

"Oh my Lord," Jayla said, her eyes wide-eyed.

Adam went pale and loosened his tie.

"Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen," Adam announced over the loud hum of the turbines seeping through the mirrors, "we have a minor emergency. I'm afraid the rest of our tour has to be temporarily post—"

"What the hell happened?" a man in the group asked.

Beads of sweat appeared on Adam's forehead. "Well, uh..."

"It's the dead, isn't it?" a woman asked.

"Is there an army of them outside?" a second woman asked as she trembled.

Adam took a handkerchief from his back pocket and wiped his forehead dry. "Uh, not exactly."

"Then what the hell else can it be?!" a second man asked.

Adam chuckled and looked nervously at Isaac and Jayla. "Uh, well...well..."

Isaac stepped forward and raised his hands. "Alright folks, follow us to the rec room, please."

Isaac turned around and resumed walking up the hallway. Adam glanced at the group, and then followed Isaac. Jayla shook her head and followed them, and the group looked at each other nervously and rushed to catch up with the three plant workers.

Glenn walked faster than the others and he placed a hand on Jayla's shoulder, the woman looked her shoulder at Glenn, but she kept walking.

"Jayla, what's going on?" Glenn whispered.

    "I...I can't tell you, Glenn."

Glenn was now walking alongside Jayla. "If its walkers, my group and I can help you guys put them down."

Jayla shook her head. "Glenn, it's...it's not walkers."

Glenn's hands dropped to his sides. The Edison — Davis Power Plant was under attack and he was separated from Maggie. Jayla said it wasn't walkers, so what could the threat possibly be? Was it a hostile group? Did the Governor take over another town of survivors and was he attacking the power plant? The thought of the Governor putting his hands on Maggie again made Glenn burn with anger.

"Glenn, what are we going to do?" Zach whispered.

"Just follow my lead," Glenn ordered.

After turning left and walking down an adjoining hallway, Isaac opened a door and stepped aside for the group to enter. Glenn saw it wasn't that different from the rec room at the prison: except they were on the first floor, with wide, unbarred, awning windows.

"Uh, so everyone, please take a seat and stay calm," Adam said as he patted his forehead with his damp handkerchief.

"There aren't enough seats for all of us, fat boy," a man grumbled.

Adam chuckled nervously. "Uh, yeah. I'm sorry about that."

Isaac stepped inside the rec room, and watched as three workers ran down the hallway. He spat out his chewing gum and walked over to Jayla. "The news is spreading," he whispered. "I tried radioing Roy, but he ain't picking up."

Jayla looked at Isaac. "We should get the hell out of here."

"And leave Roy and the others behind?"

"Of course not. If we're leaving, all of us are leaving."

Isaac looked over at Adam, trying his best to calm the agitated group, and looked back at Jayla. "Stay here and make sure nobody leaves this room. I'll get Roy and the others."

    Jayla nodded.

Isaac left the rec room and shut the door behind him.

Adam glanced over his shoulder at the door and looked back at the group. "Now, I'm sure Isaac left to get us an update on the...uh, situation. But I'm sure everything will be under control soon, and we'll...uh, resume to tour."

"Man, screw the tour, and screw you!" a man shouted angrily.

Adam backed away from the group, and started to ring his damp handkerchief. "Uh, I understand you're upset, but—"

"Stop treating us like we're guests, we're your slaves!" a woman shouted.

"Yeah, and we haven't forgotten about that poor guy your psycho guard dragged outside and shot!" a man added.

The group began to shout and advanced menacingly at Adam. Layla pressed the safety off her Itacha 37 shotgun and pointed it at the group. "Okay, this isn't Adam's fault, but back off!" she warned.

A whistle mad everyone stop and turn around, where they saw Glenn, standing beside the windows.

"I know you people from Hawkinsville want to escape, and Jayla, I'll be that's exactly what you and Isaac were talking about. Now, I don't know who's attacking the administration building, but I do know Leslie Lamar's preoccupied with stopping them; here's the chance for all of you to escape."

Glenn unlocked one of the awning windows and pushed it open to its extent. Zach followed Glenn's example with the two remaining windows.

"Okay, slip through these windows carefully."

Judd glanced at one of the other monitors and did a double take. "Get that image on the main screen," he ordered.

Dylan nodded obediently and began tapping on the keyboard. A few moments later the birds-eye view of a man in blue overalls pointing an automatic rifle at a young woman inside a truck appeared on the main screen.

"That camera's from the rear of this building," Judd whispered.

"Hey, I know that guy," Dylan said as he pointed at the screen. "That's Theo; he's on Roy's version of our security team."

"Apparently, the plant workers are better security than the professionals," Judd quipped.

Dylan glanced at Judd and lowered his head in shame.

Judd picked up the walkie-talkie and was about to speak into it when the door to the security room was kicked in. Judd dropped the walkie-talkie and Dylan screamed as they both turned their heads to the left.

Elijah was standing in the doorway, pointing his AR15 rifle at them. "Wassup?" he asked with a grin.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Judd asked angrily.

"I'm looking for my crew, but I thought going to the front desk in the middle of a gunfight and requesting a PA would be hazardous to my health. You boys wouldn't happen to have seen Roy and the others on those screens have you?"

Dylan smiled. "Yeah, we just saw Theo—"

"Shut up, you idiot," Judd ordered.

Elijah glared at Judd and took a step into the security room. "Man, don't make me waste a bullet on your ass."

"Excuse me, it's been an eventful day," Judd smirked. "You want to see your friend? Come take a look at the monitor."

Elijah walked over to the monitor and stood between Dylan and Judd, while the executive's hand slowly reached for the SIG P226 pistol in his waist band.

On the monitor, the young woman in the truck dropped an M16A2 rifle onto the pavement, and Theo began walking towards the driver's side.

Elijah looked over at Dylan. "Hey, does this keyboard have a PA so I can tell Theo to wait there for me and the crew?"

Just as Dylan was about to answer, Judd pulled out his P226 and aimed it at Elijah's stomach.

    BANG!

Elijah screamed in pain and flew backwards, and hit the wall, but as he slumped to the floor, he aimed his AR15 rifle at Judd and pulled the trigger.

    BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA!

The bullets tore through the swivel chair and entered Judd's back. The executive screamed in pain and fell to the floor. Dylan curled into a ball on his chair and screamed. Seconds ticked by, and Dylan opened his eyes and looked down at the two men dying on the floor.

"The hell with this," Dylan said as he stood up and took Judd's pistol and Elijah's rifle. "This place is done. Whoever wins that fight downstairs, this place is done!"

Dylan peeked out the hallway and he ran out of the security room, leaving Judd and Elijah behind to die...and to turn.

Maggie dropped her rifle out the window and it hit the pavement with a thud. Theo lowered his own rifle and began walking towards Roy's truck. Maggie's fingers wrapped around the handle of the Walther P99 and took a breath.

More gunfire echoed inside the administration building.

    BRAKA!

Theo stopped and looked at the building, unsure of what he should do now.

"Did you hear that?" Maggie shouted. "My friend's life is in danger. You've got to let me help him!"

"Shut up!" Theo shouted. "Just give me a minute to think this over!"

"A minute?!" Maggie shouted as she looked over her shoulder at the hesitant plant worker. "Don't you already now this place is an asylum?! My friends, your friends...we've got to get out of here!"

"I know that, dammit! So get out of the truck! We need that truck!"

    BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA!

The second round of gunfire made Maggie start to sweat. She knew Rick wouldn't last much longer if she didn't get the truck to the receiving bay.

"Out of the truck, girl, or I'll blast you out!" Theo warned.

Maggie opened the truck door, and Theo resumed walking towards the driver's side door. Maggie suddenly stepped out of the truck and Theo froze in place.

    "Alright, now put your hands—"

Maggie aimed her Walther P99 at Theo and he took a frightened step back.

    BANG!

The bullet slammed into Theo's forehead; his arms spread out and the Heckler & Koch 33 rifle flew out of his right hand. Theo fell back onto the pavement and his dead eyes stared up at the grey sky.

Maggie sat back in the truck, slammed the door shut, put the pistol on the passenger seat, and resumed hotwiring the truck. A spark flashed between the two wires, and the truck's engine rumbled to life. Maggie stepped the brake, put the truck in reverse, and backed it out of the parking lot space; she then put the truck in drive and sped towards the receiving bay. When Maggie reached her destination, she slammed on the brakes, and the truck skidded to a stop, and she slammed her hand on the truck's horn.

    HONNNNNK!

Security Chief Danny Byrne peeked around the corner and on the left side of the hallway, saw the saw the bullet-riddled table blocking the cafeteria's doorway. He stepped back against the wall, and signaled for his three armed and armored guards to stop.

Upstairs came the distant sounds of gunfire.

    BANG!

    BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA!

"What the hell was that?" one of the guards asked as he looked up at the ceiling.

"Who the hell cares?" Danny answered as he reached for his walkie-talkie. "Mr. Lamar, do you copy?"

Static crackled over the line until Lamar's smug voice cut through. "Are you in place?"

"Yes, sir. We're right outside the men's room."

"I want you and your men to slip through the kitchen and flank that cop. I want him taken alive, Chief. Do you understand me?"

    "Yes, sir."

Static crackled over the line and Danny returned the walkie-talkie to his back pocket. He looked at his three guards and waved at the one with the M249 light machine gun to come closer.

"Take the point, we're going through the kitchen," Danny whispered.

The guard nodded and stepped out into the connecting hallway. A few yards ahead, on the right side of the hallway, the men's room door burst open and Michael stumbled out, hunched over, his hands covering his shattered, bloody nose.

"Gak," Michael mumbled, as he staggered about the hallway.

"Ah! it's a dead-head!" the guard screamed as he raised the light machine gun.

    BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA!

The 5.56 NATO rounds struck Michael's side and waist like snowballs and he collapsed to the floor like a shattered mannequin.

"You stupid son of a bitch!" Danny shouted as he pulled down the M249's smoking barrel.

"I...I'm sorry, sir," the guard said with sweat running down his forehead.

The walkie-talkie in Danny's back pocket started to crackle, but he ignored it.

Another guard peeked inside the men's room and stared at the floor. "We've got another one in here, Chief. It's Jerry; he's unconscious."

The cop in the cafeteria fired two shots at Leslie across the lobby.

    BANG! BANG!

"Leave him!" Danny ordered. "Let's go!"

Danny and his guards stepped over Michael's bloody corpse and crept towards the kitchen doorway. From across the lobby, one of Leslie's guards hurled a grenade at the cafeteria doorway.

"Get down!" Danny ordered to his guards.

    BOOM!

A minute later, Danny sat up despite the ringing in his ears and saw the table that barricaded the doorway had been reduced to splinters. He put his hand on the shoulder of the guard wielding the M249, and shoved him forward. "Go!" he ordered.

The security guards charged ahead, none of them paid attention to the blare of the truck horn outside the Administration Building.

    HONNNNNK!

Rick looked at the bullet-riddled table and shook his head worriedly. Maggie wasn't back yet; it shouldn't have taken her this long to hotwire a truck, not unless she got into some kind of trouble. Now Rick heard gunfire upstairs and voices coming from the hallway on the right.

"Ah! It's a dead-head!" a voice in the hallway screamed.

    BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA! BRAKA!

"You stupid son of a bitch!" an authoritative voice shouted.

Rick wasn't in the military like his grandfather, but he could tell that he was being flanked. He leapt up and aimed the Colt 1911 at Leslie across the lobby.

    BANG! BANG!

Now with Leslie and his men ducking for cover, Rick started running towards the cafeteria's serving line, and he leapt over it and hit the floor hard.

    Behind him an explosion roared.

    BOOM!

A few moments later Rick peaked over the serving line and saw the dinner table had been reduced to a pile of kindling. What the hell did Leslie just shoot at him...a grenade?

    HONNNNNK!

Rick looked over his shoulder at the kitchen doorway. Maggie had hotwired the truck and signaled she was outside. Rick got up and ran in the kitchen. He was hallway towards the doorway to the receiving bay when a guard wearing a combat helmet and a flak jacket, carrying a machine gun ran into the kitchen through a doorway on the left.

    BANG!

Rick's bullet struck the guard in the center of his flak jacket, but the impact made the guard drop the machine gun and fall back into the hallway.

    "Grenade!" the authoritative voice shouted.

Rick heard a pin hit the floor and saw a grenade thrown into the kitchen. He picked it up, threw it back, and ran into the receiving bay. Rick heard the authoritative voice shout, "Oh, shit!"

    BOOM!

    "Rick!" Maggie shouted happily.

Rick ran down the receiving bay's hallway and leapt into the truck bed. "Go!" he shouted to Maggie.

Maggie put the truck in reverse and stepped on the gas. A few moments later she spun the truck around and floored it towards the power plant. Rick held tightly to the corner of the truck bed, hoping he didn't survive those bullets and grenades just to fall out of a truck and get run over.

Maggie saw a man in blue overalls kneeling beside Theo's body; he was holding the dead man's hand and crying like a child. As Maggie drove past, she recognized the man was Isaac. Maggie looked straight ahead at the power plant and saw the second group of captives from Hawkinsville sneaking out through the front door windows on the side of the building When she saw the last man slip out, she immediately stepped on the brakes, put the truck in park, and climbed out. Both she and the young man smiled in joy and relief.

"Glenn!" Maggie shouted as she ran into his arms.

"Where is he?!" Leslie shouted as he kicked a piece of the shattered table.

The two guards that followed Leslie into the cafeteria stared down at their two dead comrades, killed by splinters from the explosion. They nodded at each other and aimed their automatic rifles at the heads of the two bodies.

    BRAKA! BRAKA!

"Richard, do you copy?" Leslie asked through the walkie-talkie.

    Static was the response.

Leslie glared up at the security camera and tightened his grip on the walkie-talkie. "Richard, do you freaking copy?!"

    The static continued.

"Godammit!" Leslie shouted as he struck the side of his leg with the walkie-talkie and paced the floor angrily.

The guard posted outside the cafeteria screamed, and Leslie spun around and saw the guard Rick had killed earlier had turned as was now biting into the ankle of one of his men. The screaming guard aimed his M16A2 rifle at the walker guard and pulled the trigger.

    BRAKA!

The bullet blew the walker guard's head and the bit guard staggered back into the cafeteria. When he regained his balance, he looked at his bleeding ankle and then he looked at Leslie, who stared angrily at the guard before he raised his Heckler & Koch MP5 and fired.

    BRAKA!

The 9mm bullet struck the bit guard in the forehead, but didn't penetrate the back of the combat helmet. Blood and brain matter were dripping down the nape of his neck as he fell onto the cafeteria floor, dead. Leslie glared at his two surviving guards, and they stepped back nervously.

    "Mr. Lamar!" Danny shouted.

Leslie cursed under his breath and stomped out of the cafeteria and turned right to walk down the adjoining hallway, the two guards hurried to catch up. Leslie found Danny, holding his combat helmet by its chin strap, and standing over a guard whose legs had been blown off from a grenade.

"That cop shot this kid out of the kitchen, so we tossed in a grenade," Danny explained as he started to remove his torn flak jacket. "The son of a bitch threw it right back."

Leslie looked down at the legless guard, his eyes closed. "Is he dead?"

Danny dropped his flak jacket beside his combat helmet on the blood and gore stained floor. "He's going to wish he was."

The guard suddenly moaned and his eyes blinked rapidly. "Oh, God. What...what happened to me?"

Leslie aimed his MP5 at the legless guard's forehead.

    BRAKA!

Danny and the four remaining guards leapt back. Leslie glared at Danny for so long, even the chief of security felt uneasy.

"The Hawkinsville group was split in two; that's the procedure, right?" Leslie asked. "One half ate breakfast and the other half went on a tour of the plant."

    "Yes...yes, sir," Danny answered nodding.

Leslie grinned. "Then that's where we'll find Rick Grimes."

A commotion erupted upstairs, and Danny glanced up at the ceiling. "There's something going on up on the second floor, Mr. Lamar."

Leslie loaded a fresh magazine into his MP5 and walked into the kitchen. "You go check it out. I've got a bug to squish."

Leslie disappeared into the receiving bay, the four guards followed; one of them slung his M16A2 rifle over his shoulders and picked up the M249 light machine gun before running to catch up with Leslie and the guards. Danny took a final gruesome look at the bits of the guard's legs splattered around the hallway before he ran back to the lobby.

    Chapter 8 Review

Wow...those guys were sick and twisted. They definitely got their just deserts after the horrible agony they put those women through. I'm glad they finally met their match: Michonne. I read your comment to Honda (who I agree with--some things in this world, you wish you can "unsee") and I like the idea that by burning the scrapbook--she's giving these women a funeral, a chance to be at peace finally. It goes to show when the world's gone to sh!t, there are some who will exploit and harm others. Much like these days when there's a catastrophe, some people come together, and others do more harm.

I liked the brief interaction between Beth and Sasha, since I don't recall them speaking much to each other on the show.

I don't trust John and I don't like how he's trying to get these guys against Rick. I can understand him not wanting to repeat what just happened with the Governor. But geez, before talking about killing Rick, give the man a chance to earn your trust. After all, he allowed them into the prison--and Rick didn't have to do that all. Something tells me that John, Eddie, and Floyd will be trouble. Michael...not so much.

Great sequence with Maggie, Glenn, and Tyreese.

    Thank you ShaneFan.

Michonne will discover some of the rapists' victims after she leaves Woodbury.

Beth and Sasha interacted very little on the show.

John's group goes through some radical changes during the story. The guys you'd think would be loyal to him wind up being critics.

    You're welcome, Rapscallion.

Oh wow...alive or dead? I'll have to read to find out.

That's what I was thinking...I couldn't even recall a time when they spoke. Thank you for putting them together, even if for a brief moment. I like seeing different characters interact.

I look forward to reading more of these changes with John's group.

Rapscallion, chapter 25 blew me away. That had to be difficult to write, all that action in so many different locations. You handled it beautifully, I could picture it in my mind as I read.

Richard gets pay back. Idiot that throws genade gets his comeuppance. Theo messes with the wrong woman. Maggie does what needs doing to save TF.

Loved it when Rick tossed that genade back.

Rick, Maggie and Glenn, tough team to beat.

I enjoy reading your stories. You are very talented.

    Thank you, @mishone.

Yes, this chapter was difficult to write. In fact, this chapter was cut in half because there was too much action! The later half of this chapter will now be called chapter 26 and will be posted later this week.

Wow loved all the action with Rick and Maggie. What a couple of badasses <3 I can tell Rick is getting closer and closer to killing Leslie.

    Thank you, @RickyGrimes.

Two scenes I enjoyed putting in this chapter: Michael staggering out of the men's room, all bloody and disoriented, mumbling an infamous "Gak" from the comic books. That guard rightly thought he bumped into a walker and nearly tore him in half with the light machine gun.

And, to repeat what @mishone said, the scene when a guard tosses a grenade into the kitchen, and Rick picks it up and throws it right back. I knew when I mentioned in the last chapter that Leslie's guards had grenades I had to let Rick throw one back at them.

Everything I was going to say mishone already said. lol

Love the detail you put into these action scenes..... the guard glancing at his bit ankle and then looking back up at Leslie.....only to have Leslie shoot him a second later. He's ruthless.

LOVED Rick throwing the grenade right back. That made me laugh. Taste of their own medicine.

    Pictured everything. Well done Raps!

Yes, Leslie is ruthless, and his final confrontation with Rick will be in the next chapter.
