Filming in Hopewell, VA. A "plane crash" scene. I'm kind of hoping its an old plane wreckage from the start of the apocalypse and not another fresh crash. We've had our fill of active airplanes from Fear lately....

And also, the tentative name for the show appears to be "Monument". That may change.

Quick City update:
Staff has been working for weeks with the crew from “Monument” which is a spin-off of the popular Walking Dead Series on AMC. They have a major scene that they need for the 10 show season, which is being filmed in Central Virginia, and they have decided to film it in Downtown Hopewell! YEAH!

Most of the filming occurs at night after all but a couple of the downtown businesses close. The film team has worked with every affected business and worked out accommodations and/or compensation for them if their business is being impacted. The film crew will pay all costs of City Government for Police and Fire services required as well as any traffic control that will be needed. They are using local businesses as much as possible to include all the catering needs for all their actors and crew.

Some of the filming for a critical scene in Monument will occur along Hopewell between East Poythress and East Cawson. The production team will begin dressing and decorating the street on Tuesday, July 30 th . They plan to wrap and have the set removed by Thursday, August 15 th . The scene will feature a plane crash, and the production team is bringing in a 737 fuselage that will be sprawled across Hopewell Street to set the scene for the plane crash. Hopewell Street between East Poythress and East Cawson will be closed from Wednesday, July 31st at 6pm to Thursday, August 15th at 6pm. Detour signs will be posted to navigate travelers around the street closure. The filming will occur overnight on Wednesday, August 7th ; Thursday, August 8th and Tuesday, August 13 th .

East Broadway Avenue between Route 10 and Kippax Street will be closed from 5:00pm-7:00am on Wednesday, August 7 th and Thursday, August 8th ; and 3:00pm-5:00am on Tuesday, August 13 th . There may also be intermittent traffic control on streets surrounding East Broadway and Hopewell Street during these filming times.

There will be no parking along the north side of East Broadway Avenue between Library Street and Kippax Street from Wednesday, August 7th at 5:00pm thru Friday, August 9th at 6:00am and on Tuesday, August 13th from 4:00pm-5:00am. There will be no parking along the south side of East Broadway Avenue between Library Street and Kippax Street during filming, which will occur between 5:00pm-6:00am on Wednesday, August 7 th and Thursday, August 8 th ; and again between 4:00pm and 5:00am on Tuesday, August 15 th.

Kendal Cooper Casting is now accepting applications for extras through November of 2019. Production is seeking people of all ethnicities, ages, genders, and types to play various characters throughout the series. Specifically seeking actors with a background in movement or dance, with open availability and a flexible schedule. Seeking SAG and Non-Union talent. All extra work is paid. The scene they are filming involves the wreckage of a 737 airplane. An actual fuselage as well as the wings from the plane will be staged on Hopewell street near East Broadway. So do not be alarmed if you happen to ride by and see a largeplane sitting in our downtown.

They will also be filling as many “Extra’s” spots in the movie with local talent, so many of our residents may have the opportunity to be in a television show.

As per the Richmond Times Dispatch, via TSDF, they have been filming this week at Virginia Commonwealth University, but it has been made to look like Nebraska State University. Looks like at least part of the show takes place in Nebraska.

That's okay. I hear Nebraska's nice.




The AMC series called Monument prepares to film a scene on the campus of VCU between the student commons and Harris Hall Mon. Aug. 5, 2019.

"The Walking Dead" spin-off is filming around the Virginia Commonwealth University Monroe Park campus this week through Wednesday, according to sources.

The AMC series called "Monument" will follow two young women coming of age during the zombie apocalypse. It is expected to air in 2020.

The show is being overseen by veteran “Walking Dead” writer Matt Negrete, who created the spin-off with “Walking Dead” franchise chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, a former “Walking Dead” showrunner.


The spin-off has been filming around the Central Virginia area since July and is also currently filming in Hopewell through Aug. 15.

"Monument" is expected to continue to film in the area through November.
