I voted 8/10. It was nice to have the show back and proves Fear the Walking Dead has a looooooooong way to go.

    7/10 for me

and personally it is a good score, considering season 5 was a steady 5/10, except for the latest episodes

and I admit that I have great expectations for this season (and the next one), considering they will cover the most interesting archs I've read so far

I'll give this episode a solid 8. They did a great job building up the characters, exploring their mindsets and relationships to one another. There were also a few lighter character moments as well. All of which was kinda lost at long stretches through the show at points, so this season premiere is very encouraging.

I knocked the score down a peg since I didn't really feel the time jumping was necessary. When such a narrative device is used, it should be to accentuate points in the present and how it ties in with the past. I didn't really feel they did that. The B&W used made it easy to figure out what was going on, but it didn't feel cohesive.

A solid 7 from me. After the amazingness that was Fear The Walking Dead, I wanted to be blown away. The black and white filter and playing with time bugged me, however I enjoyed the tension of them dealing with the horde and the conflicts between Rick and Carter.

Perfect balance of action & emotion. Loved the b&w wholeheartedly, and I can't wait for next week

I'm not sure what to rate it. I have no real gripes with the plot or the characters, but feel the constant b&w flashbacks were overdone. There just didn't feel like enough time time had passed to warrant flashbacks in black and white - I understand they thought it would help the viewer distinguish between then and the present, but if that's what necessary to make such a small amount of time between the 2 less confusing, they should have just shown us things chronologically.
The content I'll give a 9, the presentation of that content, a 5.

I give it a 7 (I rarely give episodes a 9 or a 10, they have to be really mindblowing for that).
It was a good episode, strong season opening, but I felt it was off to a GREAT start and it sort of flatlined a bit from the first 15 minutes on, and when the final scenes came I just didn't feel I was much into the episode as I've been with previous episodes. I did like the use of black and white for the flashbacks and Heath, the new character.

I gave it an 8. It could be more I just need some room for a better episode which is a tall order. I liked the way they did the black and white it was a soft look. I thought the plan was right at the edge of believability even for science fiction. All the characters and writing were incredible. Great show the 90 minutes went by too fast.

Loved it, felt like a stand alone movie. Photography was adventurous and engaging, lots of surprises and scary bits, glad to get back to walker action. Loving the new more mature Glennand Maggie also Abe and sasha reaching an understanding .
    eugene is pure class.
10/10 from me which is something since I'm so grumpy and hard to please.

I was bored (mostly, not entirely). I thought the only reason for the black & white "sort-of-flashbacks, but not really was the story would be even more boring if it were told in straight chronological order. So, at least kudos to them for figuring that out and making it look artsy. Here's some things I liked and didn't like:

    * Loved Abraham's crazy (likely intoxicated behavior). Go Abe! But I fear his future.

    * Loved the death scene of the AsZerian, sorry forgot his name -- who got bit in the face, and it came out of nowhere. One of the best bit-character dying scene they've had on the show. And, like so many deaths, it was so unfair -- just after the guy finally got with the program.

    * Liked the Glenn/Nicholas scene about the noisy walkers at the [store?] Classic TWD high tensioin but it works out okay.

    * Loved Eugene's jokes when he is caught in the pantry.

But here's a couple questions that left me wanting more:

    1) If they were only taking the walkers out 20 miles and if, per TTD, that is only 5-6 hours away, what was the point?

    2) What are all those looks Michonne and Morgan were exchanging about Rick? He seemed okay to me. Were they just afraid to tell him his plan sucked because of point # 1 above

    3) If they were only out there a few hours, what was the point or significance of a couple bandaids being removed from Rick's face every other Rick scene (with no visible signs of injury in the areas of the removed bandaids)?

    4) Why were Rick and Deanna such inconsiderate, uncompassionate asses toward Pete's children that they are going to throw their father's body into the woods to rot? Deanna-- understandable. Rick -- uncalled for. Rick used to be a BIGGER character than that -- a man with compassion and kindness, not just anger, revenge and a-holedness. Maybe that's what Michonne's and Morgan's looks are about. If Rick doesn't start being something of the man he used to be, I predict a coup d'état.

    5) Come on-- was that horn that derailed the whole walker-trek exercise really a surprise, given we know (even if they don't) that the WolvesNotFar are out there?

    6) What's wrong with Rick that he won't let Father Gabriel help? Granted, maybe the guy isn't trustworthy, but he could have found something not critical for him to do and not treat him like that in front of everyone.

    7) Rick's a great military tactician (although this exercise was a fail). BUT, did Darryl or Aaron ever tell him about what they saw out there?

I was very happy to see that Sasha has recovered mostly from PTSD; to see Rosita back, somewhat, in the action; to see Tara back in action and a little more subdued than she was; to see Eugene can still deliver the lines.

I think the next episode is going to be a lot better than this one -- and likely a real tear-jerker. I think there are some really deep stories evolving here.

Rated a 7. The jumping back-and-forth was interesting at times, and other times distracting.

Hard to compete with the non-op action of S5-1 "No Sanctuary". Felt more like a mid season premiere.

I agree with your sentiment 100%! I love the show, but I found this episode disjointed and the B&W annoying. I rated it a 7.

    I gave it a 9/10.

I ended up really liking the concept of the episode and the forward/back thing.

I am also really anxious to see what happens next episode, and see what happens next. Usually I can't wait for the next episode because I just love the show, but this time it's different. I was left on the edge of my seat, and that's something I haven't felt since the Season 4 finale.

First time I watched it I gave it a 7. I was expecting something like the season 5 premiere based on the reviews and hype. It wasn't just the action of the season 5 premiere that I loved but the way the story was put together. Everything felt like it flowed better. After watching it again I'll give it a 7.5. It didn't blow me away but I kind of like that they tried something different. A lot of people complain about how they think the show is repetitive so I can kind of see why they wanted to step outside the box.

It finally aired yesterday in my country so now I can rate it. I give it a solid 9. I really like it and I find the complains most of the people have are based on plain old lazyness and passive watching, because this episode made you think and question a lot of things.

*Why the B&W? We are dealing with the same characters in the same setting, so they needed a timeline clue to clarify that (and frankly if they did the cliche'd "Three hours ago" thing it would be way out of tone). And the B&W is a cool nod to the comics.

*But why the timeskips? This episode was all about changing relationships. Rick, Morgan, Carter, Glenn, Nicholas, Abraham, they all experienced some kind of shift in their relationships with other survivors. It was a yuxtaposition of past/present relationships, as well as the aftermath of Pete's execution. But where the timeskip excelled IMO was showing the plan step by step. You were first showed the actual execution of it (which it wasn't planned as stated by Carter in the beginning) before the planning. All of this made you actively think about the relation between past an present and thus made the unexpected things (which at this point in the series we expect the unexpected) more dramatic.

*The only complains I had kinda cancel themselves. I was concerned that that massive horde would be a one-episode-only-thing thus being a way big useless thing. Finally I was upset about the cliffhanger in the end. The lenght and scale of this episode made me think of it as a stand alone, one episode only arc.

Overall I really liked the direction Nicotero took (the timeskips reminded me of Memento, one of my all time favorite movies) and was really invested into it.

Some valid criticisms here thus far. Weighing the good points and the not so good ones, balancing it out I think the overall episode was excellent, so I give it a 9. For me, the flashbacks interrupting the main event had the effect of ratcheting up the intensity of watching the plan play out. Which you wouldn't have gotten in a straight linear telling of the episode.

As for the end, well we all knew it was going to fall apart so that was hardly a huge surprise. Seeing them so close to pulling it off only to have it sabotaged was heartbreaking though. Which is good story telling as I expect that is just what they were trying for.

Agreed. One of the few episodes that had a beginning, a middle and an end...The episode was plotted out very well. In that respect, it was one of the best episodes ever..It was like watching a feature film..
