What is with all the cash? Not even "rich" people carry around straps of $10,000 in cash.

If there was some disaster, and I could see someone taking cash and valuables with them to their safehouse.

Yes, something to trade. Cash is obviously worthless now but they had no idea how long this would last. Maybe they thought it would pass??

Yeah, the two previous posts pretty much nailed it... those people had fled their homes and were seeking refuge at the club house.

There was suitcases scattered all around the first room. People obviously packed all their valuables... understandably at the start of the outbreak, cash was considered valuable.

If some sort of calamity were to occur, where banking and such, were to be dysfunctional, it would be obvious that people would grab their stash of valuables and cash before leaving their homes. Lots of people keep cash in safes. Moreover, even when a storm comes and power may go out, people are advised to get cash.

I'm not sure why this would be such a mystery.
