My feeling is probably cause of the heat under those walker masks and suits. It would be awful enough walking around outside all day down south in the heat, let alone with a big ole hot mask on!? You'd have people passing out left and right. Of course, even in Virginia, in the summer, you'd have people passing out, but maybe a little less....maybe just left, not right. This is kind of another bit of logical hooey with the Whisperers. To maintain that lifestyle they would need like 6 bottles of water on them at all times, and they'd be drinking from them every few minutes.

    Chicken run?
Also. I dont think they leave every year. This was just abnormally harsh winter. Alpha tells Ezekiel that she thinks its going to be a hard winter. Just like Alexandria makes it through winter but struggled this year.
