Yeah that was my point, when they were not hurt/winded they were barely staying ahead of the walkers, so now hurt and winded how could the walkers not be faster and gaining on them.

The fact is Shane shot Otis's LEG. He could have easily shot him in the head, it's almost like Shane wanted Otis to suffer by letting the Walkers eat him alive...

iF HE SHOT HIM IN THE HEAD IT WOULD HAVE DONE SHANE NO GOOD, NEEDED LIVING BAIT.

Excuse the caps lock but I'm not retyping it again, lol.

I guess I could have retyped it since the second sentence is just as long lol

Shane needed to be sure they'd be more interested in Otis than him. For that Otis needed to be alive. Shooting him in the head might have worked, but when you've already committed yourself to murder is making it less painful worth the chance that it might not work and then the whole thing be for nothing?

It's cold, but he was maximising his chances. I dont believe Shane was a sadist.

Yet I think it's the following episode when they try to entice the walker in the well with a piece of meat and they make a point of saying that it wasn't interested because it wasn't live bait.

Thought they made that point obvious?

They didnt have a canned ham when they were waddling away from the walkers at the school to try that theory out.

he wouldn't shoot himself and let otis go back to the farm and survive, so he did the opposite. simple enough for anyone.

Shane needed a big distraction to get away and shooting Otis in the leg accomplished that. If you really think about it, a better distraction in the beginning that would have kept the walkers distracted longer and they both might have gotten away. No plan survives initial contact anyway.

If I were making the plans, I'd have driven close to the school, led the walkers away in my car and have Otis run in and grab the supplies. Then pick him up, drive the wrong way for a bit to lead the walkers in the wrong direction and then turn for the farm. Otis knowing the area would have made this easy.

Alas, people tend not to think of obvious plans on this show.

"A good distraction? How bout some flares with a burn time of like a minute?"
"Good plan bro! Chuck em over there! Yeah, right there, where they're still in plain sight of the door we need."
"Done that bro! Let's do this!"
"YEAH! Oh shit, I forgot to put my phone on silent."
*ringring* "Hey Otis, can you pick up some tea too?"
    "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-"

This was a real turning point for Shane as a character I guess, I mean he is no longer a victim from Lori but now a villain. At this point I lost all sympathy (what little was left after what he tried to do to Lori in 1x06)

There were 2 main reasons that came to my mind :

1 - Shane just wanted to made up an excuse to went bald.

2- Shane couldn't think straight because he wanted to keep Carl alive no matter what happens.

    I'm gonna pick no.1 though.

I must of overlooked that, but seriously. A heard of hungry walkers, I don't think they would be fussy if he was FRESH dead. There was alot of meat on Otis's bones ;)

By acknowledging that they made poor decisions under pressure you are also acknowledging that they made poor decisions.

People are therefore allowed to point out that they were bad decisions. So what's the problem?

This is also my favourite show ever aired, but I can still be sporting and point out its flaws. Anyone who gets uppity and defensive over the slightest criticism is just an annoying fanboy.
