It was probably the only color they could find.

It's likely that "A" is a reference to the boxcar that Rick and company were held in during their stay at terminus. Do you remember the designations?

I've seen this written someone on this forum before (by HondaS2kXD I believe), but it was basically a method of psychological warfare. They were in Boxcar A before, and while they left now, this is now just a new Boxcar for them, no different from Terminus.

This. It symbolized that they were still in control of Rick's group and that they were just inside the church rather than the boxcar. To them, Rick's group was still "group A."

Brings me back to the first episode (I believe i made a topic about this) back in the first episode Gareth said that Bob, Daryl, Glen and Rick were all part of section A the other 4 victims were apart of Section D. Would make you think what would the point be in sending people to different sections if they all end up dead anyway.

Oh . Did I also hear correctly that Gareth and his gang are the ones marking the trees (that Morgan had seen)?

You were disappointed? I thought it was great. Just enough differences to make it fresh but so close to the comic I could go "hell yeah" more than once :)

He either noticed (so stayed behind to watch) or they hauled ass back to the church in record time after discovering the camp empty.

I like that explanation. They knew they were watched so they played it cool.
