Why do severed heads never look like the person?

Tara did not look like Tara and Enid did not look like Enid. Henry looked like Henry though.

I had to get confirmation on who died. LOL

I knew who tara was. Took me a sec for Enid. The rest were ok by me, I think, but obviously I had to take a second look at the Highway men because I wasn't as familiar with their faces.

    Awesome scene.

The highway men were the only ones besides Henry, I recognized immediately. LMAO

The prosthetic effects were pretty bad indeed. Don't know who handles that work now.

Actually I thought all the heads looked pretty good. Tammy Rose was right on. The only one I had trouble with was Tara. I thought it was Rosita. I especially liked the touch where some of the mouths were still moving.

They're normally pretty good, but that was crap... And why is it still called KNB? Kurtzman left that many years ago...

Yeah Tammy Rose was spot on. As was Henry. The rest not so much.

Yes. Tammy Rose and Henry were heads above the rest.

    (1) I think mainly it was the makeup making the faces so discolored. That blurred out a lot of facial clues. There would have been an even greater impact if we had known right off the bat who was who without analyzing them. (2) Faces had lost plumpness--should have been better stuffed. (3) At less than one day, no reason (other than expense) for hair to be less lush and distinctive.

At first I thought Tara was Rosita, too, and I thought THE BABY!!!

I was a bit disappointed with the heads. I was hoping for a bit of animation, or a better recognition.

I knew Addy, but only because they put her glasses on her.

I thought Ozzy was Luke at first LOL until they showed the “where’s Enid? flashback”

No clue who Alek was supposed to be until we saw the barn fight scene.

Me and my mom were like AHH WHO IS THAT?!? when they showed Tara. Thought it may have been Rosita.

Tammy Rose, Addy, and Frankie were easy to spot (the bandana, glasses, and red hair, respectively)

Prosthetics like that never look remotely close to the actual actor, imo. Even Ned Stark in Game of Thrones. Did not look like Sean Bean.

That's why I was leaning into theories on the pike line up that were based around identifying features. Like Ezekiel's dreads. So that when you saw it, there'd be no doubt who it was. The only one I recognised for sure was Tammy Rose because of her bandana.

Same. And I'm sure there are examples of good prosthetic heads, but I can't think of any other than the one in The Thing.

Total Recall had some pretty neat (not severed) prosthetic heads too.

In the very short portion of TTD that I watched, Brett Butler explained how they molded her head for the pikes scene.

i wasnt too let down by the heads even tho i thought that enid was rosita.once i regained my composure i noticed that the mouths were moving cos they had turned. thats when i wanted to do something unspeakble to alpha.something involving lots of pain and anguish.

overall i thought they were very good esp tammy ,henry and the main highway man.(sorry to see this character go, he was interesting)

Maybe those heads were actually 'realistic'. I mean, I have never seen an actual freshly decapitated head before but, maybe, with the loss of blood, the skin colour would be really that whitish and lost the 'plumpness' and would look very similar like that?
Anyway, like many, if I had not known it was Tara, I would have thought it was Rosita too.

This is what I was coming in here to say. I thought the heads were really well done to be honest, even for the "secondary" characters up there like Alek, Frankie, and the Hilltop teens.

There was little to no blood left in any of their heads after getting them removed like that. It makes perfect sense for the facial features to "cave in" and sag and for the skin to go completely colorless like that.

The one I'm seeing the most complaints about is Enid, but still:

That is extremely obviously Enid. Between being dead, all of the blood being drained, and her eyes being in a reanimated state... hell at least I thought they did a good job. They honestly looked better than most of the decapitated heads that you see in Game of Thrones, and that show's budget is infinitely higher than what the Walking Dead is at right now.
