So, my 8yr old son has decided that he wants to make movies over the summer. While I hope to get him into some stop motion videos, my wife and I have decided that we will just let him play around for now. My wife gave him a quick tutorial on how to use Windows Media Player I do believe it was. This is his first movie. It is what I guess you would call a storyboard. I'm not to sure on what it would be called technically. We were surprised at what he made. Please leave encouraging comments. Enjoy!

lol awesome, lego's! The video filter is pretty cool...making it look like an old reel.

(glad to see you got it to work!)

Haha, I used to do one of those myself back when I was little. The more frames your son will take, the more smoother the animation. Windows movie maker seems to work with using stop motion well. I don't know any other video production software that might help. Maybe sony vegas?

Also you might want to check this out if your son plans on making a zombie short.

It's a private online retailer that makes custom molds of small toy firearms for lego figures :D

Great! Look forward to seeing the next one :0). Can't go wrong with Lego - well, unless you stand on it whilst barefoot of course (unfortunately happens too often in this household).

Haha, that's pretty neat. I hope this mini movie has a future to it. I'd like to see what can come of it with more practice. :D

Good luck to your son on his movie-making!
Pretty freaking great for an 8-year old. Keep at it, dude!

Pretty neat all the way around and from an eight year old. thats awesome.

there are some free programs to do special effects that are pretty good, from explosions and muzzle flashes, to fires and light sabres. a few are pretty simple to use. I have a couple on a hard drive some where Ill try to find them to get the names for you if you want.

I'll echo everyone else and say that was pretty cool! For an 8-year-old, it's even niftier. Thanks for sharing!

here are some of Effects programs I have laying around. some are easy and good others not so much. take a peek at them, who knows your eight year old might be able to use them.

    FX home effects

    Magic particles

These are free as far as I know of…

    ArcSoft Magic-i Visual Effects 2.0.0.50

    ParticleIllusion

    Special Effects 3.2

Rebaslight, this one can do pretty good light saber effects.

Theres plenty more on the net, some easy to use with good effects, some complicated, and others aren’t worth the time it takes to download LOL.

Thanks, outdoorsguy! He is currently on sabbatical from the movie making business. (I made a mistake and bought him Lego: Batman 2)

Your son is 8!? Wow, this is fantastic. The fact that he's starting with this now is really good, I'd say he's going to be pretty flippin' awesome with this soon enough. =P! Tell your son that this was great work. =)
