Full Details Of Star Wars: Battlefront Revealed Today
Battlefield developer DICE has been working on a Star Wars themed FPS for quite some time, and the public has been starved for details — and until today, did not have any. DICE introduced Star Wars Battlefront to a large audience at the fan convention Star Wars Celebration.
Battlefront will be focused on multiplayer, and multiplayer will be huge: there’ll be support for up to 40 players at once, in iconic locations such as Endor, Hoth and Tatooine. Players can battle as a full assortment of characters from the franchise, including Darth Vader and Boba Fett. You’ll be able to ride speeder bikes, pilot TIE fighters, take the Millennium Falcon for a spin — if it was doable in the original trilogy, it’ll be doable here.
“You can storm in as the Dark Lord himself,” said Niklas Fegraeus, the design director. “You can wield a lightsaber. You can Force choke the rebel scum, which is fun. Basically, you are the boss of the battle. This means that you, as Vader, can lead your team to victory — if you play well.”
You’ll also get a free downloadable level about two weeks before the release of The Force Awakens: “Battle of Jakku,” a map set in the desert planet the new movie will take place on. The game event, however, will take place in the timeline shortly after Return of the Jedi ended.
“You never get to see it in the new movie, so it was this brilliant opportunity to recreate the Battle of Jakku, which you only see the remnants of in the movie,” says Patrick Bach, the game’s executive producer. “In the game, you actually get to play the Battle of Jakku. It’s the same place from the new movie but 30 years earlier.”
You can hear the symphony of “pew-pews” already, can’t you? Star Wars: Battlefront will hit physical shelves and digital ones on November 17. For full details, check out the Associated Press article.
