What You Get From Preordering Gears 4
Preorder Gears of War 4 and Microsoft will give you three extra playable characters in the multiplayer mode. Two of them are “Old Man Marcus” and “Tomorrow Anya,” the familiar couple we saw in the cinema where Gears 4 was first revealed. It isn’t known if Marcus and Anya will be usable in the game anyway and these are alternate versions….but I would assume so. The third bonus character is….kind of a spoiler if you haven’t finished the trilogy yet. Fair warning.
- Tomorrow Anya is named after her famous words following the end of the Locust War (“Tomorrow Marcus. We finally have a tomorrow.”) Her appearance is based on her look in the Gears of War 4 television commercial, “Tomorrow,” where she was introduced as the mother of JD Fenix.
- Old Man Marcus features an older Marcus Fenix as unveiled in the E3 2016 media briefing demo. Twenty-five years after the Locust War, Marcus and the COG have long since parted ways. His facial hair has grown long and his COG regulation kit has been replaced with by civilian clothes.
- Zombie Dom proves there’s no keeping a good solider down, at least in the form of this character skin created as tribute to Marcus’ dearly departed best friend Dominic Santiago.
Other bonuses include Gold Wave versions of the Lancer and Gnasher guns.
There’s an extra bonus that you’ll get whether you preorder the game or not, but only before the end of the year: digital copies of the four previous Gears games. Gears of War (2006), Gears of War 2 (2008), Gears of War 3 (2011), and Gears of War Judgment (2013). The earlier ones aren’t remastered — these are the 360 backwards-compatible versions, same as if you put a disc in.
Gears of War 4 comes out October 7, 2016 for XBox One and PC.
