New World War 2 Shooter In The Works From UK Studio
In the 2000’s when console FPS games really took off, the setting du jour was World War 2. Call of Duty was originally known for its 1940’s locations. Another series, Medal of Honor, was devoted entirely to the historical period. Eventually people got sick of replaying D-Day over and over and over and other FPS settings started outselling WW2 games. It’s been a long time since then — the last Call of Duty to take place in WW2 was released in 2008.
One studio in England thinks it’s time for the Second World War to make a comeback. Battalion 1944 is the name of a multiplayer shooter from UK studio Bulkhead Interactive. “We’ve all grown up playing classic shooters like COD2 and Medal of Honor,” says Joe Brammer, Batallion’s producer. “It’s been a decade since we last saw a great WW2 First Person Shooter and I think the genre’s resurgence is long overdue.” The game is being developed for PC, Playstation 4 and XBox One.
“Fight in real world locations such as the streets of Carentan, the forests of Bastogne and many more in our spiritual successor to the great multiplayer shooters of the past,” says Bulkhead’s official description. “Precise aim with your Kar98, covering fire with your M1 Garand and quick thinking with your Thompson are key to your success, all packaged into a competitive multiplayer environment. In short, Battalion 1944 is an infantry based first person shooter with an emphasis on raw skill. No grinding, no ‘exosuits’, just you and your skill as a player.”
Bulkhead has also released the first trailer for Batallion 1944 along with the announcement. Check it out below, but Bulkhead wants you to keep in mind it’s very early in development and may change. If you really want to help the game along, there is a Kickstarter currently running to boost the budget.
