SDCC2013: The Walking Dead Comic Book 10th Anniversary Panel
The following individual wanted to know if Kirkman had been influenced by books, television and whether or not any ideas had come to him and dreams. Kirkman said, “Dreams!” He followed by saying that he loved Zombie films, but hated how they ended. There weren’t any long term survival stories. He thought “it’d be fun to do… and dreams.”
In the next to last question, a fan wanted to know if the show would follow the comic eventually. Kirkman told them it would not happen. He said that characters that die in the comic may not die in the show, and characters that have not died in the comic die in the show all of the time. He wanted to carry over the idea of not knowing who will survive to the television show.
The final audience member with a question wanted to know what Kirkman’s Favorite comics and tv shows right now. Kirkman told the person that he enjoyed The Savage Dragon, The Manhattan Projects, Saga, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy.
Kirkman playfully chided the audience for gaps in the questioning throughout the panel. He told them in jest that he was extremely disappointed in all of them, that he doesn’t prepare for these panels at all. He continued, saying that it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on him and that it was something he was not prepared for. He continued to kid the audience and told them that he didn’t feel they were doing their equal share and if another panel were held next year, he expected better. The audience laughed and applauded. With that, he humbly thanked the audience. The audience responded with more applause and then the panel concluded.
