Season Five Facts from The Walking Dead’s Gale Anne Hurd (Mild Spoilers)
Hungry for more The Walking Dead info? The Walking Dead Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd recently dropped a few facts about the upcoming season five, some of which may surprise you.
Some of these may be mild spoilers, especially if you try to avoid any knowledge of the show beforehand. But if you’ve seen the season five trailer most of these simply explain scenes from it.
First off, don’t worry about our cast cooling their heels in the traincar for a long time. The scene in the season five trailer where the Terminus folks bust in with gas masks and flashbang grenades apparently happens almost immediately after Rick utters his “screwing with the wrong people” line in the season four finale.
“It’s the first time we haven’t had ‘and months pass,'” Hurd told Zap2it. “I think the fans would have gone crazy if we’d picked up and they’re cohabiting in peace with the Terminans.”
Oh yeah, looks like instead of killing the Terminans Rick and company will get along with them, at least for a little while, but that was obvious from the trailer.
Hurd also said expect some urban and suburban settings this season, another thing we’ve seen in the trailer. Anything to avoid endless tromping through the woods.
She said the cast heads to Washington D.C., but not everyone is a true believer in Eugene’s promise that he knows a cure.
“If you think about it, there are going to be optimists, there are going to be pessimists, there are going to be people that think going back into an urban setting is going to be very dangerous, because we’ve seen that many urban settings are essentially the City of the Dead,” Hurd said. “I don’t think the debate is over yet over what’s a good idea and what isn’t.”
Hurda also said well-loved characters are going to die, but wouldn’t say who.
Finally, don’t expect Daryl to get romantic with either Carol or Beth, at least not early in the season.
“Daryl’s interesting because there are the people who want him to hook up with Carol, there are the people who want him to hook up with Beth, there are the people who never wanted him to hook up because he’s got to save himself for them,” Hurd said. “Regardless of what we do, I don’t think we’re ever going to make anyone happy.”
