Sequel To Star Wars Battlefront Confirmed
Star Wars has worked out pretty well for Electronic Arts — despite mixed critical reactions, their big holiday title Star Wars Battlefront made back its budget and then some. According to EA’s latest public statement it’s now sold over 14 million copies across all platforms. With numbers like this there will most definitely be a sequel, and EA confirmed the project today.
You’ll have to wait a while to play it, though. EA also took the occasion to announce its entire release slate for the 2016-2017 fiscal year, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 was nowhere on it. This means the sequel won’t appear until the fall of 2017 at the earliest. However, EA is promising something unrevealed will fill the gap.
“We’ll most likely have one Star Wars title a year for the next three to four years,” said Blake Jorgensen, EA’s chief financial officer. What that means right now, only he knows. The only confirmed Star Wars-related release for 2016 from EA is the VR version of the game we just got. There are also three additional expansion packs coming, but barring a big revelation at EA Play this June, Jogensen’s statement sounds inflated.
However, EA HAS planned for the future — even farther than Battlefront 2. Jorgensen mentioned that 2018 would see the release of a third-person action game possibly based on the expanded Star Wars universe that’ll be seen in Rogue One and the Han Solo movie. That game is currently in development at Visceral Games and the famed Amy Hennig (Uncharted) is heading the project.
