Surprise — Quake Got A New Episode Today
Today is the day the influential shooter known as Quake made its PC debut, twenty years ago. As a special anniversary present, Machine Games — current developers of Wolfenstein: The New Order and original developers of Quake — has released a new chapter of the original game.
“Happy 20th to Quake @idsoftware!” said Machine Games on Twitter. “As a gift to the fans, we created a new episode of the game.” And it’s free.
To get it, go here — you will need the ability to open RAR files, as well as a copy of Quake. (It’s $2.49 currently during the Steam Summer Sale.) Extract the RAR to a new folder called DOPA in the main Quake directory. Now add the command line parameter -game DOPA. Do this by right-clicking the game name in your Steam library, going to Properties, then Set Launch Options, and pasting in the text. Then start the game and the new levels will begin immediately.
iD Software announced during E3 that the Quake name will be returning to the modern game world with Quake Champions, now in development at Bethesda.
