Lady Gaga Wins Golden Globe For American Horror Story: Hotel
Lady Gaga brought home some hardware for “American Horror Story: Hotel”, by winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a limited television series of television movie for her role as The Countess. It was the singer’s first-ever win as she admitted in her acceptance speech that she had always wanted to be an actress first before being a singer.
Gaga defeated Kirsten Dunst (“Fargo”), Sarah Hay (“Flesh & Bone”), Felicity Huffman (“American Crime”) and Queen Latifah (“Bessie”).
In a post-award interview, Gaga spoke about her role as The Countess and what it meant to her.
“For many people, darkness is just that, they see it as a bleak, empty space. For me darkness is an expression of art, you can create things that are so beautiful out of something sad,” she said, adding that working on the show “was exhilarating, liberating. I would leave the set every day in tears, just full of relief. The countess is evil, she’s not a good-willed person, but after 100 years she never gave up, no matter what she went through. You will fail in this business, the true test is whether you can get back up. I love the art of darkness.”
Gaga is a six-time Grammy Award winner for her singing career but this is her first award for acting for a career which began in 2001 and included mostly bit parts in a variety of low-budget movies and television shows.
Although “American Horror Story” was also nominated for best TV movie or limited-series, it did not win that category [losing out to “Wolf Hall”].
