So What Happens Next On The Walking Dead? Mom? MOM?
Late last year our intrepid heroes (okay, they weren’t ALL heroic) found themselves in quite the tight spot: surrounded by flesh-eating zombies that respond to noises such as the one emitted from a stupid little kid in the last second. When the show starts airing new episodes again this Valentine’s Day, what will happen next? Will we know right away? Robert Kirkman, creator of all things TWD, told Entertainment Weekly this: “Yeah, we actually don’t get back to that for seven episodes or so. It’s going to be quite a cliff-hanger.”
There was a brief moment in the room where everybody’s heart stopped and then Kirkman continued with, “Nah, I’m joking. We pick up right in that moment.” Don’t DO that, man; it was entirely plausible given what the show has pulled in the past.
“Alexandria is overrun. Rick and the kids are all covered in guts trying to get through the crowd. Everyone is where we last saw them, and things get worse from there.” Right, we figured that much. But can we also assume that we’re nearing the end of the Alexandria storyline, given how Walker-infested the town is now?
“It comes back to those plans of rebuilding Alexandria,” says Kirkman. “Assuming some people survive, and it’s a good bet that some do because they’ve already talked in the midseason finale that they’re not planning on leaving Alexandria. It’s a bump in the road, but there’s something special there, and they can turn this into an anchor that they can build upon. They actually have a chance at surviving long term and building a safe place, not going from safety to safety to safety the way they have for the life of the show. This isn’t the prison, and ‘Oh, we gotta move on from here and find another place.’ This is something different. And from there, there will be other things that expand their world in new and terrifying ways.”
EW remarks that Kirkman’s last sentence is probably referring to Negan, and it’s a safe bet given his confirmation as a presence in the season’s second half. The Walking Dead comes back February 14 on AMC.
