Two New Characters Will Be Joining TWD Season Eight

You lose some, you gain some. The producers of The Walking Dead want to keep their cast bountiful and sprawling, and so with the loss of a few characters from last season, they’re adding two new ones.

According to Michael Ausiello of TV Line, casting is now underway for two recurring good-guy characters. One is “Dillon, a sexy, blue-collar twentysomething whose survival skills include sarcasm.” How do these words go together? Using the word “blue-collar” brings to mind lumpy dumb-as-a-rock stars like Kevin James, who is not sexy nor sarcastic in any way. It doesn’t blend. We’ll see what we get.

The second character is Abbud, described as “an innately likable Muslim American whose nerves are, let’s say, jangled, because he’s flown solo for too long in zombieland.” To be frank if I was a Muslim living in the South right now, I think I’d prefer the zombie apocalypse. Until now, though, the only character who knows what it’s like to survive completely alone in this environment is Enid, who seemed to take to it like a duck to water. A different perspective on that situation could be interesting.

Will these characters thrive and survive, or are they one-season wonders destined to die? And who will they choose to begin an awkward romantic subplot with? Assuming the writer’s strike doesn’t mess up the schedule, The Walking Dead’s eighth season will begin airing this October.
