Ubisoft knows The Division hasn’t worked out as smoothly as they’d hoped. This hasn’t stopped them from pursuing a movie deal out of the game (and you just know they’re going to try a Division 2 at some point) but they’re aware their creation turned out to be a malfunctioning mess.
That’s why they’re taking the extra precaution of launching a public test server for future updates, so players can test them before they become official. “As many pointed out after we announced Update 1.4, a great way to involve you would be to let you try the update before its release,” Ubisoft said. “We are thrilled to confirm that we will be opening a Public Test Server on PC for The Division in the near future.”
The company had to delay its planned DLC in order to devote all its time to squashing bugs. The 1.4 update will be focused on eliminating these bugs (and hopefully not introducing new ones), as well as rebalancing the game and making loot drops more relevant.
Other games that utilize public test servers include Overwatch (which hasn’t had any big glitches). We should learn more about the public server plans and Update 1.4 during Ubisoft’s livestream event scheduled for September 13.
