    In the previews for next weeks episode it shows Daryl picking up a knife and saying, "This is Carol's knife." This to me implies that something other than death has happened to Carol.

    Myabe it's like comfort. (For them to grief.) Dig hole, and then filled it up. Then, put the cross into the ground.
