I think the better question is why didn't Rick say anything when Carl is clearly feeling self-conscious.

 

Well, at least we don't have to worry about Carl OD ing on drugs now.

 

I think Rick seemed really surprised by Carl's comment and didn't know quite what to say. Rick has probably been so caught up in being happy that Carl survived without any huge problems that it never occurred to him Carl was feeling anything like that. Yes, it would have been great if Rick stepped up and comforted him, but giving Carl any false platitudes wouldn't have worked well either.
Hopefully he'll take time to address it soon.

 

its only been 2 episodes since he lost his eye and he's already changed....Carl never would have turned down road trip to see new community

Can't really say too much on the subject as I haven't read the comics, but staying behind and protecting/watching over Judith seems pretty mature to me...

 

The chance of that is literally 50/50. Nothing coincidental about it.

As for the eye puns: they're all half-witted and/or stupid

Seemed to me that he was pushing Enid away thinking that his eye loss made him less whole or appealing in others eyes . He seemed to hve lost a bit of confidence in himself because of this disfigurement. He has yet to learn that it is not appearance but heart that really matters. It looked to me that Enid did not share that view. Carl was still every bit Carl to her.
