That's what I was thinking. I can't imagine how they survived. When the Oroville Dam was threatened this past winter, they temporarily evacuated entire towns downstream.

 

Nick's an asshole. The guy that used to walk with Walkers now can't go outside the gate without a panic attack. His flashbacks were definitely to do with the dam and not walkers. Madison said he was in a bad place when she found him again.

 

Remember when all Nick had to do was smear some blood on his forehead and he could walk through a herd?

 

I think nick thought he was dead for sure and that shook nick. Nick NEVER feels like he's ganna die. The idea of his own mortality might have never entered his head. Not when he saw his Z girlfriend nawing on a face in their flop house, not when he was rounded up and detained in the "undesirables" camp (where/when he meet strand), not when he walked with a heard of walkers, not when he faced the cartel to get a ganzito, not when he was at the ranch, NEVER. UNTIL, the damn blew. I bet he made his peace with death, and lived, that could be tough to come back from.
