I love this paint-by-numbers-style mural in a children's room. You can see the door on the left. The two-door cabinet towards the right hides a built-in TV.

So to illustrate how wild and crazy my Saturday evenings have been the last few weeks, I present my new Tamerlane Chess set :p. When I made the first one I had no info on what the actual pieces from the 14th Century would have looked like. There is no drawings of the specific Tamerlane chess pieces in existence as far as I can surmise, and there are no historically accurate sets online. In The 15th Century manuscript [the only source we even know the rules of the game from] the author gives a fairly detailed description of the pieces. I finally found a translation of that section, and made a set to the best I can tell he was trying to describe, based on what standard Persian chess pieces looked like at the time.

For scale, this set is large. The board has 112 squares, and each square is over 2 inches squared on my set.

Well... she and Avenatti were on the t.v. every single day, and now... she's might as well be hanging out on a planet with Mark Hamill somewhere. What's up with that?

Have you worked your way up to Class C in your Tamerlane chess skills yet? You are going to need a hobby after the Wool series is over. :)

When you have been working your butt off for six months on a major project, had many arguments and meltdowns - it finally happens! New website launched today, I was one of three people working on this major project. Then I receive these beautiful flowers from the firm to say thank you

Hmm that’s not good. What browser are you using? Our host recommends Google Chrome.

I think the apocalypse is starting. In my hometown there has been a recent string of reports of coyotes coming right into town and attacking deer and pets. Yesterday a bear strolled through my neighborhood.

And another bear sighting just now, which I haven't seen the pic of yet, but which I'm told appears to be a different, larger bear. This time about a mile away.
