Yes. In the world of crime-mysteries, there are two fundamental plot designs: (1) let the audience see the villain and the crime, and then watch investigators struggle to discover the villain ("We KNOW the butler did it!"), or (2) the criminal is completely unknown and the audience and the investigators step thru the discovery process together ("Wow - the butler did it! I'd have never suspected him").

I made a joke elsewhere about TWD and all of FEAR's episodes up to this BLOOD IN STREETS being more akin to Gilligan's Island solution developments. And while it was a frivolous joke, even Gilligan's didn't waste 7 seasons! FEAR's consume one and a half.

If viewers go back and rewatch the marathons, take a stop watch and actually measure how much of any episode is watched (er, tolerated?) and add those totals up.

Gilligan's sometimes seems closer to a solultion than ever. Too bad that tele-satellite could only show the chicken-people once.

    Wow.

I would've never linked Gilligan's Island to the Walking Dead series...until I read your post. And it all makes so much sense now.

Am I the only one who thinks it is 100% a lie & Strand is pretending to be his 'lover' to get whatever it is he needs? Opportunist & all that.... there is some sort of hidden agenda for him wanting to reach his particular destination quite clearly however I don't think it's as obvious as him wanting to see his lover.

I suspected that Strand might be gay early on when talking with Nick about El Sereno. and him saying , "I'd gentrify the shit out of that ". That, and his secretive nature. Might be more 'bi' than 100% gay .

Well its not just to see his lover its also to get to a safe place to ride out the zombie apocalypse. That would pretty much take priority over anything else for anyone. But if he is faking it he's been doing it for many years since he met him during hurricane Katrina. The main thing we've been shown, in my opinion, is how he looked at what must have been Thomas' picture before leaving the home in LA. He stared at it longingly. I can't remember if he was alone or Nick was there but either way there is nothing to be gained by him doing that just for show. He appears to sincerely have at least some feelings for Thomas based on this even if he is also just taking advantage of him.

I just got banned from a Walking Dead group because a bunch of women were complaining that he was gay, but didn't show any signs and that it seemed forced.

Here's a quote from one of them..."Digressing here....But I think its important for women to recognize the clues. There are many gay men who are still in the closet...even now when it is socially acceptable. Knowing the signs just may save women a lot of emotional pain and heartache. I have a friend who went through it and it was painful to watch."

I said that gay men aren't all stereotypes, and that her comments were a little on the homophobic sign.

    Banned

This is why most other TWD groups are garbage, it's filled with weirdos who do nothing but post half naked pictures of Daryl and call him their husbands. It makes the Daryl fans here look dignified.

what strikes me as weird is your description of entire female internet groups fantasizing that Daryl is their "husband", which is ironic in that his character is written as a closet homosexual (confirmed by the actor in interviews).

On the other hand, this whole politically correct over dramatized name calling and denigration has GOT TO STOP. As I understand it, a PHOBIA is an irrational fear that controls a person. It's gotten to the place where people can't joke, or just have conversations about identifying sexuality without being verbally lynched.

Now, granted, I wasn't there for this discussion you mention - so I can't really comment. I'll just ask - is it a possibility this woman was trying to engage in a conversation directed at single heterosexual women that might be helpful and constructive in the context of seeking a romantic partner? What do you think her intent was? Do you really think she has an irrational fear of homosexual people?

Sad that instead of engaging you in a real conversation they just shut you out.

Just asking, because I got labeled this simply for having a discussion about the Strand kiss. Voicing an opinion about a scene played out by actors, especially with the Strand character does not a homophobe make.

Because she kept continuing her rant about how gays have "certain eye movements" that show off their "gayness", and how they're trying to marry straight women? I don't know...she was nuts.

I'm sure I'll get shit for saying, but I find in certain female dominated fandom groups there's a real problem with censorship or silencing any debate no matter how civil because it's "bullying" and there must always be this fake nice-nice, and consensus.

I didn't say all women, but the group was spamming my facebook feed with pictures of Norman Reedus half naked constantly and most of the comments were pretty vile, and pathetic. Daily posts about "This is my husband" of Andrew Lincoln or Reedus.

I don't like my feed turning into porn.

I don't mind if Strand is gay. We sure have enough straight characters on the show. But, I just think the guy has an agenda and he'll use whoever he needs to to reach it.

Fairly certain you will not find more than the rare exception a gay man trying to marry a woman.
especially in 2016. That would be an example of the most fearful and extremely closeted of men.
Like a GOP senator, or religious leader... someone that actively participates in bashing that particular group.

as for getting banned, That seems like an over reaction.

I think strand being gay makes his character much more dynamic.
He is a perfect example of a non flamboyant gay man.

Being flamboyant or not, is not the critical factor in deciding if a guy is gay. Sounds like those women were simply stereotyping.
I wouldn't give em another thought if I were you.

If this show is set in the same universe and following the same timeline as the main show, then this would all be happening in 2010. The main show started in 2010, so I would think that is the same time we're in during Fear. This means that Thomas and Strand would have been together for about 5 years before the apocalypse (Katrina happened in 2005). I don't think even Strand could fake being gay for that amount of time, especially to a guy like Thomas. I think Strand cares at least a little bit for Thomas. Strand to me is a little bit like Han Solo. You know Han cares about Leia, but he has a hard time showing it and keeps his cards very close.
