Crossbows have way more draw weight than the more powerful compound bows. In this case, the fact of hitting or missing doesn't really matter. Either way, if you miss it's hard to find, if you hit your target, the zombies, it in reality would blow right thru them with ease, again making it go off in the distance, hard to find. I have a compound bow that has a draw weight of 72 lbs. that goes thru elk like butter, a recurve bow with 50 lbs. of draw weight that chops turkey heads off no problem. Most crossbows the size of Daryl's will have at least around 175-200 lbs., He is usually pretty close range, like 20 yards or most of the time within 10 yards, so there wouldn't be much power loss. Of course it's a TV show, so they just have it stick in the zombie head so he can retrieve it without issue.
