Did the bat kill Sam's brain?

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure that wasn't a hard enough hit to kill them. In fact I think a couple of them were still groaning up until their throats got slashed.

Agreed. In real life a blow to the head with a bat that like could cause anything from death to severe brain damage to nothing more than a concussion, depending on the position of the blow, the skull, etc, so it would be a gamble as to whether they woke up. And on the show the walkers often take 2 or 3 or more blows with blunt objects to go down.

In the season 2 opener, there were dead bodes in some of the cars. In the commentary it was explained that those people had suffered a head trauma when they died.

Add to that the notion that the Termites had plenty of opportunity to experiment on how much bat speed it took to keep a person from turning.

I also don't see them leaving the head on too long either?
So maybe the chomping head will turn but they likely just play Kick Ball with it and all is good.

Can you imagine getting hit with the head, when playing dodge ball?

I think they would have been shown in the escape, the butcher was shown chasing after Rick in the end, so the others should have turned by then.

Sam and the others were all tied up, so even if they did turn, they wouldn't be seen walking around unless someone cuts them loose I would think. Maybe they could've crawled away, that is assuming they didn't have brain damage and turned.

I was wondering too. I think that when butchering some animals you don't kill them, but cut them and let the heart bleed them out. Otherwise the blood just settles. And I was sure I heard moaning too.

I think the bat to the head was just efficiency in cutting their throat and making sure they didn't splash blood around as they bled out. It helped keep it all in the trough. To me, the process being so 'assembly line' and efficient in its nature really made it even more horrific. They had been doing it long enough to really fine tune the process.

The bat might have killed some but I suspect the heads would have been cut off during butchering process and put in the box labeled Burn.

Oh my, I hadn't thought of this before either. I don't they were killed by one blow to the head, so yeah, now they,'re writhing around in their bonds. Poor Sam.

I think the blow to the head was to give them enough head trauma that they don't turn and they quickly slash the throat before the heart stops.
