Zombies can use Tools?

    So I was just watching it and the zombies were using rocks to help break the glass to the store they were hiding in. Is this the only time they were smart enough for that?

    Also, how do they know to use that to break glass?

    The writers admitted to making the walkers "smart" in season 1. Season 1 was the only time it happened.

    that and them climbing the fence once should pretty much just be ignored lol. I tend to just pretend those didn't happen. I guess they DO pick up what they are eating.

    It seems like the only way a walker could have a tool is if he/she had it in their hand when they died/turned, but the scene at the department store shows a walker hitting the glass. There's a scene similar to that in NOTLD, where the zombie tries to break the car window to get to Barbara, and in LOTD, where Big Daddy has the machine gun and another zombie uses a meat cleaver to break down the wall to Fiddlers Green. Most zombies are bad enough just clawing at you with their bony hands and no tools!

    I just rewatched season one for the first time and found the forum looking for the answer to this apparent inconsistency as to how zombies act in most seasons. Thanks.

    There are a bunch of threads for this same topic. It seems like the consensus is that as the Walkers get more skinny and run down, they become dumber and weaker.

    Also in season 1 when Glen was rescuing Rick and they ran to the department store building the walkers attempted to climb the fire escape ladder as they both made their way to the rooftop.
    That was about the last time I remember seeing them using any kind of intelligence at all. I don't think they've used any rocks or tools of any kind since season 1. I guess as the apocalypse continues and the walkers age they continue to decompose then eventually die.

    Don't forget they were able to climb fences as well in that episode or the next.

    Obviously I did forget.
    I just received season 3 of TWD from amazon so I'll re-watch the entire season while Rick and the gang were at the prison. I'll look for walkers climbing the fences there.
