Advanced Warfare Adding Purchasable Supply Drops
Sledgehammer Games and Activision have announced that you’ll soon have a new way to get supply drops. Just buy them with real money.
Dubbed Advanced Supply Drops, they can be purchased on the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in-game store for $1.99 each, $5.99 for three, $9.99 for five or $19.99 for 10, according to a FAQ. They include:
– Three items.
– At least one weapon variant.
– At least one Professional rarity item or better.
– All items come with their own Armory slot; all items can be redeemed for XP.
These supply drops also contain a chance at unique cosmetic gear, including “Eco Custom Exo, items from the Arctic Gear set, and more.”
There’s a definite gambling element to these, as the random gear inside might be something you’ve already got in your armory. You also might get the same item within two supply drops in a row, although Activision promises there we’ll be no duplicate items within individual supply drops.
Activision promises this isn’t a pay-to-win item, saying that all the items “are optional and do not affect the balance of gameplay.” What do you think? Items like these are very common in free-to-play mobile games, but how do you feel about them popping up in a full-priced AAA series such as Call of Duty? Discuss on our forums.
