Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Resolution Higher on PS4 Than Xbox One
Going to buy Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare today? Got both an Xbox One and a PS4? Here’s some info that might figure into your decision, at least if graphics are important to you.
Sledgehammer Games Co-Founder Michael Condrey has confirmed in a Reddit AMA that the PS4 version of Advanced Warfare hits a higher resolution than the Xbox One version.
“Minimum Xbox One resolution is 1360×1080, and dynamically scales from there to full 1080p. That’s over 50% increase from last year,” Condrey wrote.
That’s impressive, but he also wrote, “Advanced Warfare runs native 1080p on PS4.”
Condrey claims both run at a “rock solid 60 FPS.” Digital Foundry, however, disagrees. In its side-by-side performance comparison it says there is a price to pay for the PS4’s razor-sharp resolution.
“We catch dips between the 50-60fps lines during battles through Seoul’s streets – with drops to the high 40s caught when throwing the ‘threat’ grenades to scan the area for enemies. Even in perfectly matched scenes, the Xbox One’s performance tends to hold at a perfect 60fps by comparison,” the article says.
Whether this is something you care about is all down to personal taste. Some people swear they can’t tell the difference between upscaled and native 1080p, for some it’s a deal-breaker. For others frame rate is king, and they’ll take a lower resolution version for a guaranteed buttery 60 FPS.
