Destiny Dutifully Dumps Dinklage
The latest issue of Game Informer has revealed several changes that Destiny’s new, gigantic DLC, The Taken King, will be applying to the main game. The first of which being that Dinklage is out.
Peter Dinklage, now a successful and famous actor thanks to his breakout role on Game of Thrones, has nevertheless been stuck in some roles you’d consider beneath him, such as having to play a Billy Mitchell expy in Adam Sandler’s box office bomb Pixels. One would assume a major voice-over role in a AAA video game would reverse his fortune, but something went wrong, and the performance he gave in the game was somewhat less pleasing than Tyrion’s “I’m sorry I was born a dwarf” speech. It sounded rather phoned-in, in fact.
People started mocking Dinklage’s voice as soon as Destiny was released, and though they soon found other things to complain about (especially within Destiny), the displeasure with Pete’s performance stuck with Bungie. The Taken King will, thus, erase him from the game and replace all voice files of him with Nolan North. North is perhaps the most famous voice-over actor who works in video games, having played both a hero in the Uncharted series and a villain in The Last Of Us to perfection. The hope is that they can’t go wrong with this one.
Game Informer also reported that The Taken King would raise the level cap to 40, the level-gaining system would be restructured, and that a whole host of new weapons would be replacing what is currently in use. Destiny: The Taken King comes out September 15th for both last-gen and current-gen consoles, plus the PC.
