SDCC 2016: XBox One Now Cheaper Than It's Ever Been

by on 07/24/2016

As you likely know by now, the XBox One is getting a facelift in the form of the XBox One S. The new model is smaller, outputs video in 4K and comes with a Bluetooth controller. Upon this announcement, the remaining stock of the original model was discounted to $299. Apparently that mountain isn’t vanishing fast enough, because today Microsoft announced the original One’s price would be slashed further.
Beginning today and for a limited time (Microsoft has not specified how long), the original XBox One costs just $249 — the lowest entry point this current console generation has ever offered. The deal affects four bundles: Forza Motorsport 6, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and Rare Replay.
Microsoft knows the days of this model selling any units at all are numbered. The XBox One S will be released August 2, a little more than a week from now. Though the only available version will be the 1 TB model at $399, its mere existence is going to slow the process of changing store inventories. All 2015s must go!
If you’re only interested in the XBox One for one game, this extremely low price may be the moment you’ve been waiting for. If you plan to heavily use the XBox One as your main gaming platform, though, getting the new version would make more sense.
