Destiny Has Gone Gold, No Trading in the Tower, and Other Updates
Bungie has confirmed that its ambitious new shooter Destiny has been finished and discs are being pressed and packed for the game’s Sept. 9 release.
In the weekly Destiny update on Bungie blog, however, the company also said that even though it is done on disc, the game is not in its “final form.” The company plans on supporting, tweaking, and updating the game after launch.
“Though Destiny may be basking in the gold light of release, we’re already looking ahead to the next milestone, and the next one after that,” the post says.
The update also includes a more controversial statement. There will be no trading with other players in Destiny.
“As for swapping irons in the Tower? Nope. We want you to earn ‘em. You should be able to tell a badass story for every sweet jewel in your arsenal. Once you earn them, the various Guardians under your account will be able to trade them, but weapons belong to the players who acquire them through action and bravery,” the post says.
Arguments are already raging around the internet about that one, with some players pleased because it cuts out the chance for scammers trying to trade rare items for money, and others annoyed because trading is an expected feature of most massively multiplayer games. Finally, Destiny gets in on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, with the video you see above.
