You Can Register To Alpha-Test Doom Now, If You Qualify
Bethesda Softworks, publisher of the upcoming Doom reboot, announced today they are now taking registrations for their alpha test of the game. Those who qualify and sign up will be among the first in the world to play it. So how does one qualify?
Unfortunately, the ship has already sailed for most of you on that one. The way to qualify to playtest Doom was to preorder another game by the publisher, Wolfenstein: The New Order specifically, by a certain date. That date was May 26, 2014.
In case you DID do what Bethesda said, here’s what you’ll get: the alpha is designed as a “stress test” for the multiplayer servers. One mode will be open (a six-on-six deathmatch) and it’ll take place on a single map, Heatwave. There’ll also be a limited set of weapons and equipment to test out.
Keep in mind this is the alpha, not the beta. The beta will be further along in development and those who preordered Wolfenstein will also qualify to test that version too.
If everything goes smoothly, Doom should be ready for consumers sometime in 2016.
