Details of Destiny's April Update
Yesterday on Twitch, Bungie announced the new material we’re getting in Destiny’s April update. The update will introduce a new material called Chroma that can be found in four different colors: white, red, yellow and blue. Apply Chroma to your weapons and armor, and you can make them glow Tron-style in the designated color. There doesn’t appear to be an advantage to this beyond looking cool — it’s just for customization purposes.
If you apply Chroma to a weapon and you decide you’d rather have a different color, do you have to replace the entire weapon? Nah. “We don’t want you to throw away a helmet you like in order to customize it,” said David “DeeJ” Dague, community manager at Bungie. You can change the color of Chroma you’ve already used by spending 100 Glimmer, but it’ll also require more Chroma to make the switch.
Along with Chroma, three new sets of armor will be introduced to the game: Heliopause, Desolate and Spektar. Desolate is Taken-themed and will be the rarest to get, but if you can collect the entire set, you’ll earn the “Shiver” emote.
These items will be distributed in a new way: a mystery box called Sterling Treasure that you can obtain a maximum of three three times a week. The Postmaster will have one, the weekly Crucible playlist will generate another, and the third can be won by completing a level 41 Prison of Elders activity. If you’re impatient and cash-flush, you can also buy Sterling Treasure from the Eververse Trading Company, but in that case you’ll be allowed to preview what’s in the box before taking it.
More updates: a third page is being added to each tab in the vault, so you’ll now be able to store a total of 108 weapons. Some of the Year One weapons are being level-upgraded to make them useful in the current game; the following guns will be upped to 330 attack: Shadow Price, Badger CCL, Lord High Fixer, Grim Citizen III, The Saterienne Rapier, The Devil You Know, The Swarm, Zombie Apocalypse WF47, LDR 5001, Y-09 Longbow Synthesis, Two to the Morgue and The Comedian.
This isn’t the end — next week Bungie will host another livestream, where they’ll discuss new Crucible and sandbox updates. This April, find Chroma and make yourself pretty.
